Castello Scaligero – Malcesine’s landmark

The superb Castello Scaligero castle on the northern banks of Lake Garda is the landmark of the picturesque town of Malcesine. Even from a distance you can see this splendid building keeping watch high above the azure blue Lake Garda.

Malcesine is just a few kilometres from our Hotel Orione and has been inspiring visitors from all over the world for centuries – including Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, to whom a hall and a bust is dedicated today. At the time Goethe was erroneously taken to be a German spy and was arrested. A small exhibit in the castle tells of this misfortune.

The natural history museum is next door; it presents the animals and plants which are found on Monte Baldo. More information about Castello Scaligero, Malcesine at Lake Garda can be found here.
